LASG plans Intervention To Address Menace of Abandoned Buildings

The Lagos State Ministry of Housing has reaffirmed its commitment to providing more shelters for Lagosians and positively addressing the housing needs of residents across the state.
The Ministry also assured residents that the completion of all ongoing housing projects at various stages of construction across the State remains a key priority in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision, which must be achieved by 2026.
Hon Akinderu-Fatai charged all heads of departments to ensure tasks and progress of work at all the project sites reflect quality planning and excellent delivery. “We must all work assiduously to ensure Sangotedo Phase II, Egan-Igando Cluster II and III, Ibeshe Phase II, as well as all joint venture projects are delivered for Mr Governor’s commissioning, he said.
The Honourable Commissioner further added that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, private developers and financial institutions to ensure the successful implementation of its housing programmes, in alignment with the State Government’s THEMES Plus Agenda.
In the same vein, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola has emphasised the importance of universal ethos such as hard work, justice, integrity and the need to seek blessings of Almighty God in official dealings. He also reminded the staff that “Effort is the key to success, while our work should also be done to the best of our ability as a form of devotion.
Engr Toriola stated this during a New Year prayer session with management and staff of the Ministry. According to him, the Ministry remains fully committed to delivering on its mandate of ensuring that more Lagosians have access to decent, safe, sustainable and affordable homes.
The Permanent Secretary further disclosed that, in line with the Ministry’s mandate and the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) Law, the Government is intensifying efforts to address the increasing number of abandoned buildings across the state.
He explained that the State will seek to use the existing law to intervene for the completion of these abandoned properties and consequently increase the Lagos State housing stock, improve the urban landscape, and enhance public safety.
