June 9, 2023

The Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) has identified about 26 noticeable dilapidated and highly distressed buildings within the Adeniji-Adele Housing Estate, Phases I-IV which would be recommended for demolition to prevent collapse and the loss of lives and properties.

The General Manager of LASURA, Tpl. Ajibike Shomade revealed this during an impromptu assessment of some distressed buildings in the estate after the comment made by the Secretary of the Representative Council, Phase I-IV Adeniji Adele Housing Estate, Mr. Giwa Boiku during a stakeholders’ meeting held recently at the Agency’s office.

According to her, Giwa had informed the gathering about the number of distressed buildings in the Estate (Phases I-IV) which had already been earmarked for demolition and the urgent need for reassessment and necessary action.

She listed the initial seven dilapidated buildings that have been earmarked for demolition to include Blocks 107 and 103 in Phase II and Blocks 66, 61, 58, 57 and 56 in Phase III.

“The additional 18 distressed buildings identified by the assessment would also be recommended for demolition as a matter of urgency as they were no longer fit for human habitation”, the General Manager stated.

Shomade pointed out that Adeniji-Adele Housing Estate Phase I-IV falls under the renewal and rehabilitation plan of the Lagos State Government.
