LASUTH to Partner Kanu Heart Foundation, EMERGENCY to Provide Free Surgery For Cardiology Patients

The Chief Medical Director, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo has disclosed that the hospital is set to collaborate with Kanu Heart Foundation and EMERGENCY, an NGO, to provide free surgical treatments for cardiology patients in the State.

Dr. Fabamwo, who stated this while welcoming the representatives of Kanu Foundation and EMERGENCY to his Office, commended the efforts of the team, stressing the need for a better working relationship among all parties involved.

He expressed his optimism that the collaboration would yield transfer of skills to Doctors at LASUTH.

Earlier, founder of the Kanu Heart Foundation, Mr. Nwankwo Kanu, expressed the vision of his Foundation to attract expertise in cardiac related surgeries to Nigeria such that patients will not have to travel abroad to receive cardiology treatment.

He envisaged that “This collaboration would yield positive results so that our patients can be taken care of locally.”

Luca Rolla, the Regional Program Coordinator of EMERGENCY stated that his team was excited to be in Lagos to follow up on cases that had been handled by the Kanu Heart Foundation.

He reaffirmed the Organisation’s commitment to continue to provide humanitarian services to the indigent patients at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

Rolla said, “We will be glad to collaborate with you in the training of indigenous doctors from LASUTH, both here in Nigeria and outside the country”.
