As part of efforts to fix bad roads and reduce traffic congestion along major roads through the provision of alternative routes, the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, LSPWC, has continued to implement Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directives of aggressive routine maintenance and rehabilitation of roads across the State with the completion of Ojo Drive to Alaba International Market route, among others.

A statement signed by the General Manager of LSPWC, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, stated that the completion of Ojo Drive to Alaba Market has greatly enhanced business activities and provided a more pleasant travel experience for marketers, residents and visitors who throng the areas from different parts of the country for business transactions.

He said that the Corporation has also extended its operations to Nnewi Street in Ojo Local Government as well as Badagry Local Government with the fixing of bad sections of Joseph Dosu Way, Soglo Way, Posukoh Street, Vlekete Street and Marina Road, while in Epe Local Government, the Hospital Road and Epe General Hospital Road networks have been rehabilitated.

Daramola averred that in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, from the Lekki-Epe Expressway via Abraham Adesanya to Sangotedo was fixed to further save travel time on the axis, adding that Owolabi Omotoye Street to Old Otta Road, Salawu Street, Ayegbami Street and Orile Road, all within Agege Local Government Ayoyo/Ajebo Road as well as Iledi Street, Itumaja Street, Bello Obuomo Street and Ikorodu General Hospital Road received the required road rehabilitation.

His words: “Other roads fixed by the Corporation include the bad section of LASU-Iba Road by the LAWMA dumpsite, Adenle Street, Okunola Street, Oladun Street, Baruwa Candos and Abesan Road at the Jakande Low Cost Housing Estate while rehabilitation work is still ongoing at 5thAvenue all the way to Opeki in Alimosho Local Government Area”.

“The strategic Oworo Road in Kosofe Local Government was fully rehabilitated to provide travel comfort to residents and improve access to the Oworo jetty for commuters using the waterways. Other roads fixed at Kosofe Local Government include Emmanuel Keshi, Bashiru Shittu, Ayodele Fanoiki Streets and others”, he added.

According to him, aside from ongoing routine maintenance on major roads at Oshodi Isolo Local Government, a major rehabilitation has also commenced at Oba Elewu Street to further ease traffic around the area, stressing that the LSPWC road maintenance gangs continue to work day and night to ensure that more strategic roads are covered.

While emphasising the importance of the completed works to commuters and economic activities of the affected areas, the General Manager said the corporation is working hard to ensure the target given by Mr. Governor to maintain and rehabilitate at least 250km length of roads in Y2021 is realised.

“Road infrastructure plays a major role in achieving not just the “T” which stands for Traffic Management and Transportation in the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of the present administration but the entire six pillars for the realisation of a Greater Lagos as envisioned by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu”, Engr. Daramola said.
