Methodist Archbishop says Kyari’s death shows COVID-19 is no respecter of persons

The Methodist Archbishop of Enugu, Most Rev. Christopher Ede says the death of Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari is a grim reminder of the danger posed by Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Ede, who is the chairman of the Christian Council of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter, said this in a statement on Saturday in Enugu while reacting to the death of Kyari.

The clergy commiserated with the family of the deceased and President Buhari, adding that the development had heightened the need to obey government regulations toward curbing the spread of the virus.

He advised Nigerians to in all circumstances to observe the 1.5m social distancing protocol in order to avoid a catastrophic spread of the virus in the country.

Ede said that the death of Kyari after a long battle with COVID-19 had shown that the virus is no respecter of persons irrespective of social status.

The cleric called on Nigerians to heed the call to turn to God at this perilous time, adding that people needed to keep safe in spite of the difficulties caused by the lockdown.

“We pray God to show all of humanity His mercies and take away this virus from us,” Ede said.

He however, expressed disappointment with the non observance of the social distancing during the burial of the late Chief of Staff at the Gudu Cemetery, Abuja. (NAN)
