Ahead of the proposed meeting between elders of the Niger Delta region and the federal government, the militant group styled the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate has blown up another oil facility, this time the 32-inch Effurun-Otor delivery line in Delta State.
According to the group, the latest attack was a mere warning that it was not in agreement with the group representing the region at the talks spearheaded by former federal minister, Chief E.K Clark. It said the bombing will not end soon for as long as the federal government continues to engage with the wrong persons.
The group said in a statement signed by its spokesman Gen Aldo Agbalaja that its Akuma Strike Team was responsible for the latest attack on the oil facility. The statement said:
“At about 23:30hour of Saturday, October 29, in furtherance of the OPERATION HAMMURABI CODE, our Akuma Strike Team struck and brought down the 32-inch Effurun-Otor delivery line. This is not ending soon, we shall fulfill our promise of uprooting your entire assets in our land.
“We are reiterating our unflinching belief that the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, being coordinated by E.K Clark, is a job and therefore can never get our support. Like we said before now, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate is not opposed to a genuine dialogue between the federal government and real representatives of the various nations of our region. We are collecting names from the nations in the region, those who will sincerely and equitably represent our various peoples”.
The federal government in its quest to pacify the restive region has proposed a $10 billion investment Fund to rehabilitate the region but some groups in the oil-rich belt have rejected the proposal, arguing that such money would never be released or used for the development of the region.
