The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH, operating under the Central Naval Command (CNC), has handed over two suspects to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) following a high-stakes raid on a pipeline vandalism syndicate in Bayelsa State.

The arrest, which took place in the Ekeremor Local Government Area, targeted a notorious gang leader allegedly responsible for a string of attacks on critical oil infrastructure within Clough Creek and surrounding communities.

Intelligence-Led Crackdown
In a statement released Sunday by Commander Rasheed Iginla, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Central Naval Command, Rear Adm. Suleiman Ibrahim, detailed how the operation unfolded.

Acting on credible intelligence, personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO in Brass—supported by troops from the Nigerian Army’s 5 Battalion, Elele—stormed the gang leader’s residence in Egbama-Angalabiri on April 25.

Items recovered during the raid include: One pump-action rifle, Two walkie-talkie communication devices.

A suspected accomplice was also taken into custody alongside the primary target.

Operational Cost and Commitment
The mission was not without its risks. The Navy revealed that a naval officer sustained a gunshot wound to the right leg during the encounter with the criminals. The officer is currently in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.

“This operation highlights the resolve to rid our area of operations of criminal elements to enhance maritime security and ensure a safe environment for oil companies and stakeholders,” Rear Adm. Ibrahim stated.

Transition to Prosecution
Following the initial military detention, the suspects and the recovered weaponry were formally transferred to the Bayelsa State Command of the NSCDC on April 26 for further investigation and prosecution.

The FOC commended Capt. Sunday Haruna, Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, for the successful operation, urging the unit to maintain an offensive posture to protect the nation’s crude oil output and deter further sabotage of economic assets.
