NCDC releases COVID-19 situation report for 5th May, says over 20,000 samples tested

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has released the country’s COVID-19 situation report for 5th May, 2020.

According to the report which provides a summary of the epidemiological situation and response activities in Nigeria,  21,208 (1696) samples have been tested with 2,950 (148) confirmed infections in 34 States and the FCT.

With 481 (64) discharged, the country’s fatalities at 98 (5) Case fatality Rate (CFR) is placed at 3%

The report noted 2026 (69%) male and 924 (31%) female make up of all reported cases, with 31 – 40 (24%) making up the most affected age group.

The NCDC stated further that the total number of people of interest stands at 9,305 while it has exceeded its follow cases at 9,265 (99.6% – Exceeded Follow Up)

TRAVEL HISTORY – 210 (7%)
CONTACTS – 786 (27%)
NO EPIDEMIOLOGIC LINK – 1762 (60%)
INCOMPLETE – 192 (6%)

No new State recorded a confirmed COVID-19 case in the last 24 hours. The total number of states including FCT that have reported at least one confirmed case in Nigeria is still 35 (34 states + FCT).

Sixty-four cases were discharged in the last 24 hours in three States; Lagos (60), Kano (3), Imo (1).

Five deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours in three states – Kano
(3), Katsina (1) and Nasarawa (1).
