NDLEA Launches Operation Sharar Mafaka in Kano; 52 Suspects Arrested as Command Dismantles Drug Joints
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command has intensified its crackdown on drug-related crimes with the launch of “Operation Sharar Mafaka” resulting in the arrest of 52 suspects over a two-day period.
The operation, which began on April 27, 2026, targeted over 20 notorious drug joints across the Kano metropolis. According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the initiative aims to dismantle distribution networks and reclaim public spaces from criminal elements.
The Commander of the Kano Command, Mr. Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, detailed the progress of the exercise:
According to him, on April 27 Officers raided locations including Filin Idi, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre, apprehending 15 suspects and seizing various illicit substances and drug paraphernalia.
The sweep expanded to Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park, and the Audu Bako Secretariat on April 28. This phase yielded 16 arrests (including three women) and the recovery of drugs and locally manufactured weapons.
Concurrent raids in Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa, and Sabon Gari led to the arrest of 21 further suspects.
The command vowed to maintain a persistent presence at these locations until criminal activities are completely eradicated. The NDLEA has also urged the public to collaborate with the agency to ensure that the streets of Kano remain safe for all residents.
