COMMUNIQUE ON FIRST PUBLICATION ABOUT THE LIST OF NOMINATION FOR APPOINTMENT FOR OBIDIENT MOVEMENT LAGOS STATE

The attention of the Obidient Movement National and the Southwest Advisory Council has been drawn to a false publication in certain news outlets, namely Nigerian Tribune and Parallel Facts, regarding the list of those nominated into the Obidient Movement Lagos State Coordinating Council.

We wish to state clearly that the Southwest Advisory Council, charged with providing leadership in the region, did its best to ensure that wide consultations were made with key stakeholders, including financial contributors from the Obidient Movement in Lagos as well as most of the available groups and support groups, to ensure that Obidients from every local Government Area in Lagos were represented as could reasonably be reached were carried along in the nomination process, before a consolidated list was transmitted to the National Council. While not every person could be given a position, the Southwest Advisory Council, for the sake of fairness and equity, appointed those considered most capable of carrying out the responsibilities, based on their track records and commitment to the movement.

We affirm that the Obidient family remains united, committed, and focused on the love and vision of the movement. Our driving force is the collective determination to surpass the electoral results of 2023 in Lagos State and to ensure Nigeria works for all. We therefore urge everyone to set aside differences and work together to rescue Lagos State and Nigeria in general. We categorically reject the false publications and call on Nigerians and Obidients in Lagos to join hands in building a new Nigeria, possible in our lifetime. For the record, the Southwest Advisory Council, led by Hon. Seyi Sowunmi, consulted with elected House of Representatives members in Lagos, 2023 aspirants, respected stakeholders, elder statesmen, and various Obidient groups across Lagos. The Executive list was the result of about five months of careful effort to identify the most brilliant, articulate, passionate, and resourceful members of the movement from support groups, Local Governments, and the general public. At no point did the national leadership, including Dr. Tanko, take part in producing this list. It was solely the responsibility of the Southwest Coordinating Council and was released on 1st October 2025 to the Dr. Yunusa Tanko led National Council of the Obidient Movement for ratification. We acknowledge that a few Local Governments were not fully covered in the first draft. These are already being addressed by the Regional Coordinating Council, with meetings ongoing to resolve all issues raised.

We wish to emphasize that the publications in question are inaccurate and unbalanced. Our goal remains to project inclusivity and uphold the 5Cs creed of the Obidient Movement. This explanation is necessary to clear misconceptions and assure the public of the transparent process undertaken to safeguard the movement. Please disregard distractions. Our focus is on the next election and rescuing Nigeria from further economic and social decline under the APC. A New Nigeria is Possible. This is the collective position of the Southwest Coordinating Council: a new Nigeria that works for all, irrespective of religion, tribe, social status, or political affiliation, is Possible.

Hon. Seyi Sowunmi Southwest Coordinator Obidient Movement
