Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the Cubana Millennium City project in Asaba as a transformative development capable of boosting investments and urban growth in the state.
The governor made the remark on Sunday during the inauguration of the prototype building at the Cubana Millennium City located in the Asaba Capital Territory.
The project is being developed by businessman and socialite, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana.
The inauguration, which coincided with Iyiegbu’s 51st birthday anniversary, attracted a large gathering of dignitaries and guests, including the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.
Speaking at the event, Governor Oborevwori commended the investor’s vision and determination, noting that the project had moved from a doubtful concept to a visible reality.
He recalled initial scepticism when Iyiegbu first announced plans to commission a prototype within a year, but expressed satisfaction that the vision had materialized.
According to him, the development underscores the importance of supporting private sector investments as a pathway to economic growth.
The governor emphasized that his administration remains committed to fostering a peaceful and secure environment that encourages investors to thrive.
He noted that government intervention helped resolve potential land-related disputes in the area, ensuring smooth progress of the project.
Oborevwori also highlighted the role of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in driving development, stating that the Cubana Millennium City aligns with the state’s vision of building livable, secure, and investment-friendly urban centers.
He urged Deltans, especially those in the diaspora, to take advantage of opportunities at home, describing the project as a “homecoming” initiative that would encourage more people to invest locally rather than abroad.
The governor further expressed appreciation to Iyiegbu for naming part of the development after him, while assuring investors of the safety of their investments in the state.
Earlier in his welcome address, Iyiegbu said the project represents a personal milestone and the fulfilment of a long-held dream.
He described the initiative as a “bring it back home” vision aimed at promoting investment in Delta State.
He noted that despite widespread doubt about the project’s feasibility within the set timeline, the support from the Delta State Government, host communities, and other stakeholders made its realization possible.
Iyiegbu commended the peaceful and investor-friendly environment in the state, stressing that there were no disruptions from government agencies throughout the construction process.
He described the prototype building as a world-class edifice delivered within record time and expressed confidence that the larger Millennium City project would compete globally.
He encouraged investors to consider Delta State as a prime destination, reiterating that the state offers a conducive climate for genuine business ventures.
