Oil spill: Court strikes out case against NOSDRA

Federal high court sitting in Portharcourt Rivers State, has struck out a case of oil spill brought against the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, NOSDRA.

The case was filed by Percy Nyengiyikado and Aribiba Ngeribara and other 998 fishermen and women of Yayo-Ama village of Bolo community in Ogu/Bolo LGA was struck out for lack of merit.

In a statement by the Agency, the Director General of NOSDRA Chukwuemeka Woke, said the plaintiff acting as representatives of about one thousand fishermen and women of yayo-Ama village in Ogu Bolo LGA, filed a case against the agency in 2018.

They compelled the agency to perform certain specific statutory duties in respect of two oil spills that occurred in 2008/2009 at the bolo west oil fields against shell petroleum development company of Nigeria.

However, Hon Justice E.A Obile, delivering judgement, struck out the case for lacking merit.
