One soldier has been killed by militants in a Saturday gun duel with troop at Efut Esighi waterfront in Bakassi LGA of Cross River State when the militants led by the declared wanted criminal kingpin, Benjamin Simplee (AKA G1) leader of the Bakassi Strike Force, in several speed boats attacked troops. Two militants were killed in the gun battle while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
During the attack, two soldiers were missing in action but they have since been found.. The militants also burnt a buffalo pickup vehicle.
The troops’ location has been reinforced with more gunboats and air component. The clearance and pursuit operation is ongoing, the military said.
