Our Leadership Not in Doubt, RTEAN Tells INEC Over Non Inclusion in MoU Signing

The Leadership of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has decried its exclusion from signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Transport Unions and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The MoU was signed recently for the movement of logistics in the forthcoming general elections.

The President of the Union, Mr Osakpamwan Eriyo expressed the view of the association in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Ben Ogbemudia in Abuja.

He said despite the fact that the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), had written to INEC identifying the current leadership of RTEAN, they still did not recognised the officials.

According to him, one of the aides of the INEC Chairman, confirmed that a letter was received from the minister of labour, identifying the leadership of Eriyo.

The official, however, said that there were different factions of the union.

He, however, said that the union should put its house in order, adding that the MoU was delayed because INEC does not know the authentic leadership of RTEAN.

Eriyo said that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) recognised him as the authentic president of RTEAN.

“We want to say that the leadership of RTEAN in Nigeria is not in doubt, if you go to NLC’s National Headquarter, you will see Eriyo and his Executives in office.”

“What else does INEC need to prove who is authentic or not. If there is another person the INEC know, they should tell us, we are waiting patiently for them to do the needful.” he said.(NAN)
