Pastor Adeboye gives insight into the secret behind Nathaniel Bassey’s musical success

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared insight into the global success attained by Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, the trumpeter and gospel musician with massive followership.
Adeboye while ministering at the April, 2026 Holy Ghost Service with the theme ‘Excellent Fruits’, explained that submission to authority and obedience contributed to Bassey’s global stardom.
He recalled how an American preacher visited RCCG parish on Victoria Island, Lagos, where young Bassey was blowing the trumpet with flair and efficiency.
Impressed by the performance of the young Bassey, the American preacher said he would take him to the US, but, according to Adeboye, Bassey’s pastor at that time, Pastor Eskor Mfon (now late) advised Nathaniel not to go to America because he was too young and needed to be grounded in the Lord, and he obeyed, submitting himself to the authority of his pastor and his local church.
Pastor Eskor’s logic was that if young Nathaniel travelled to America at that time, he would lose focus and may turn to something else.
Pastor Eskor was famed for his mentoring ability. He was the one who mentored both Bassey and Victoria Orenze.
Sharing the Bassey experience as an example of one of the benefits of submission and obedience to wise counsel, Adeboye recalled that several years later, the same Bassey was invited to minister at the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
Pastor Adeboye urged all children of God to obey God and live righteous life just like Joseph in the Bible who refused to defile his garment by sleeping with his master’s wife.
Political Economist NG recalls that Minister Nathaniel Bassey was the only Africa gospel artiste who performed at Trump’s inaugural breakfast meeting in the United in January 2025, and got global acclaim for his spirit-filled performance.
