Nigeria’s Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) will begin a two-day clean-up and enforcement operation along the Lagos port corridor on May 14, targeting chronic congestion and traffic bottlenecks around the Apapa and Tin Can ports.
Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, Director-General of PEBEC, announced in a statement on Saturday that the initiative, overseen by the Ports and Customs Efficiency Committee (PCEC), aims to streamline trade processes and reduce the financial burden of doing business.
She highlighted that long-standing issues such as heavy congestion, illegal checkpoints, haphazard parking, and chaotic activity on port access roads have significantly hindered cargo flow and driven up transportation expenses for years.
She added that the exercise was expected to improve traffic management, reduce cargo delays, and enhance operational efficiency at Nigeria’s busiest maritime corridor and was not intended to disrupt legitimate business activities but to create a more predictable and efficient environment for port users.
PEBEC was established in 2016 to reduce bureaucratic constraints and improve Nigeria’s business climate.
