Pi-CNG accelerates nationwide CNG, electric vehicles adoption to ease transportation costs

The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV) has announced plans to accelerate the nationwide adoption of CNG and electric-powered transportation.

According to Pi-CNG & EV, this is part of ongoing efforts to ease transportation costs.

The move comes in response to the recent rise in global petroleum prices, largely driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which continue to impact fuel markets worldwide.

Mr. Ismaeel Ahmed, Executive Chairman, Pi-CNG & EV in a statement on Tuesday said the expanded rollout would scale up the deployment of CNG and electric mobility solutions across multiple segments of Nigeria’s transportation sector,

Ahmed listed the segments to include public transport buses, taxis, tricycles, logistics vehicles and other commercial transport platforms.

He noted that the current global energy situation highlighted the importance of developing strong domestic alternatives for transportation.

According to him, rising global petroleum prices has re-inforced the importance of expanding affordable alternatives for transportation.

“Through Pi-CNG & EV, we are accelerating the deployment of natural gas and electric mobility solutions to ensure that Nigerians have access to cheaper and more sustainable transportation options.”

He explained that the programme was designed not only to reduce transportation costs for commuters but also to stimulate demand for natural gas and electric mobility solutions across the country.

“As adoption grows, we will see stronger investment in CNG fueling infrastructure, electric charging networks, vehicle assembly and other services that support the mobility ecosystem.

“This will deepen investor confidence while creating new economic opportunities for Nigerians,” he said.

Ahmed added that the expanded deployment of gas and electric vehicles across major cities would support the Federal Government’s broader efforts to reduce logistics costs across the economy and improve the movement of people, goods, and services.

He also said that the initiative aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritised practical solutions that directly improve the lives of Nigerians.

“The objective is straightforward; to make transportation cheaper, cleaner, and more accessible while strengthening Nigeria’s position as a leader in gas-powered mobility and emerging electric vehicle adoption,” he said.

“Pi-CNG & EV will continue to work closely with the federal and state governments, private sector partners, and transport operators to accelerate the nationwide rollout of gas and electric mobility solutions,’’ he said. (NAN)
