The police on Tuesday arraigned a 57-year-old man, Olubunmi Olupitan, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly attempting to exhume a relative’s corpse.

Olupitan, whose address was not provided, was charged with misconduct regarding a corpse, threatening violence and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Musbau Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in February at Iwo Road, Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant attempted to exhume the corpse of one late Omolayo Olupitan, his relative.

Lawal stated that the defendant also threatened the life of the late man’s wife, Mrs. Olayemi Olupitan, with violence over the burial of her late husband.

According to him, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by engaging in such acts.

Lawal said that the offences contravened Sections 86, 249(d) and 508 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mr. Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

He thereafter adjourned the case until April 28 for hearing. (NAN
