Police arrests over 700 rape suspects in 5 months

Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has revealed that between January and May, 2020 about 717 incidents of rape were reported across the country, while 799 suspects have been arrested so far.
The IGP disclosed this while giving an update on cases of sexual violence reported in parts of the country.

According to him there is an escalation in incidents of rape and other gender-based violence during the COVID-19 lockdown.

He made the remarks on Monday while briefing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He however noted that 631 cases have been conclusively investigated and charged to court while 52 cases are still under investigation.
