The Police Command in Imo has confirmed attack by gunmen on the Mbieri Police Division in late Wednesday night.

The command’s spokesman, SP Orlando Ikeokwu who confirmed the incident, said officers of the Division repelled the bandits after a gun battle, preventing them from carrying out their dastardly act.

According to Channels Television report, Ikeokwu said two police officers sustained injuries in the process and were currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, while one officer is still missing.

He also confirmed that some suspects in the police custody were freed.
