The Enugu State Police Command has detained two drug-peddling suspects reportedly caught in separate intelligence-led operations carried out in Nkanu East LGA of the state.

The command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Enugu and made available to newsmen on Friday.

Ndukwe said the operatives recovered quantities of substances suspected to be variants of cannabis sativa, otherwise called marijuana, and other illicit drugs.

He said that operatives attached to Agbani Area Command, acting on credible intelligence, on May 21, at 6:25a.m., raided a black spot at Umuiba Nara in Nkanu East LGA.

The operatives detained one James Ani, 35, and upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to engaging in the illicit buying and selling of “Loud,” “Colos,” and other variants of cannabis sativa.

According to Ndukwe, several sachets and wraps, containing the suspected illicit substances, were recovered from him.

He added that on May 16, at about 7:30a.m., the operatives, following actionable information, detained one Ikechukwu Edeh, 50, of Isigwe Ugbawka in Nkanu East LGA.

He explained that the suspect was found with large quantities of weeds also suspected to be cannabis sativa.

He stated that the suspect confessed to having been involved in the illicit drug trade for the past five years.

“Further investigations are ongoing, and necessary prosecution will be taken upon the conclusion of investigations,” Ndukwe added.

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, to have reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements and illicit drug networks in the state.

Giwa urged the public to remain law-abiding and continue to support the police with credible and timely information.
