The Police Command in Lagos State said it intercepted a truck conveying substances suspected to be Indian hemp during an early morning patrol in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said this on Friday while addressing journalists at the command headquarters, Ikeja.

She said that the operatives of the Special Squad attached to the Arena Base, Elemoro in Ibeju-Lekki, intercepted the truck.

Adebisi said that the interception occurred on Jan. 18, when the driver of the truck attempted to evade arrest upon sighting the operatives.

“In the course of fleeing, the driver drove into a street where the vehicle could not pass through.

“He subsequently abandoned the truck and escaped on foot, evading arrest, ” she said.

The spokesperson said that although the suspect was not apprehended, the operatives successfully impounded the vehicle along with its contents.

“A preliminary search of the truck revealed about 10 jumbo sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, which were recovered as exhibits, ” she said.

According to her, investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the owner of the vehicle.

She said that this would help in tracking down and arresting other individuals involved in the suspected criminal activity.

“As of now, no suspect is in custody, but efforts are being intensified to trace the owner of the truck, which will lead to the arrest of others involved,” Adebisi said.

The image maker assured the public that the command would provide further updates as investigations progress. (NAN)
