Police repels attack on Katsina community, arrests suspected bandit

The Police Command in Katsina State, says it has repelled an attack by suspected bandits on Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages, in Dandume Local Government Area (LGA).

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

He explained that on April 28, at about 10p.m, a distress call was received that a large number of heavily armed bandits had invaded the villages and one suspected bandit was also arrested.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Dandume Division, mobilised teams of police operatives to the scenes.

“The teams tactically engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun-duel and repelled the attack, forcing the bandits to abandon their mission and flee in disarray with suspected casualties,” he said.

He added that unfortunately, the bandits shot and injured two residents.

He said that the victims were promptly rushed to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention and were currently responding to treatment and the state Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, commended the gallantry and prompt response of the DPO and his team,

According to him, while commending the commitment of the personnel, the commissioner further directed a thorough investigation and manhunt for the fleeing suspected bandits.

“Members of the public are hereby urged to remain vigilant and support the command with credible information,” he said.
