At least one person has been confirmed injured as officers of the Nigeria Police clashed with a group protesting the continued stay of President Muhammadu Buhari in London. The protest which started Monday in Abuja was at the behest of four civil society groups with a sprinkling of other Nigerians who said they were fed up and frustrated by the silence from Aso Rock on the health status of President Buhari.
The police arrived at the scene and fired teargas at the protesters who were having their sit-out at the Millennium park opposite the Unity Fountain, Maitama, Abuja on the precinct of the three-arms zone.
One person was injured and was rushed to an undisclosed clinic. However, the crowd remained defiant as some of the protesters confronted the police verbally questioning their right to imperil their lives.
The protesters drawn from civil society organisations have a message for Buhari: Resume or Resign. Entertainment guru and self-acclaimed Area Father, Charly Boy Oputa, was a prominent face among the protesters.
The president has been away since May 7, this year and his absence has created unease in the polity especially within the power blocs in the Presidency.
