Poor job: Lagos Govt. orders closure of pedestrian bridge

Oshodi pedestrian bridge

The Lagos State Government has ordered immediate closure of the pedestrian bridge connecting  Oshodi Bus terminals 2 and 3, citing safety  concerns over the bridge’s safety and structural integrity.

Obviously, a poor job was done and the state government is concerned about safety of users.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, gave the order in a statement on Friday.

He expressed concerns over the bridge’s structural integrity.

“The order, in addition, mandated the contractor that handled the initial construction of the terminal, through the Office of Infrastructure, to place concrete barriers at the entrances leading to the bridge.

“This is to safeguard lives of pedestrians who use the infrastructure,” he said.

The commissioner  said that the closure was also  to  conduct comprehensive structural integrity assessment on the bridge for the purpose of repairs/reconstruction works.

Osiyemi advised pedestrians to make use of an alternative bridge located 30 metres away, pending the outcome of  the structural integrity assessment. (NAN)
