The Presidency has announced that there will be no condolence visits to the family of the late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Abba Kyari.

The Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, said this in a statement on Saturday, shortly after the remains of Mr Kyari arrived arrived at the Defence House in Abuja for his burial from Lagos.

According to Shehu, “As advised by the protocols put in place by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health on social distancing, the burial marks the end of all ceremonies and there will be no condolence visits to family and the Presidency”.

“Well-wishers and all other Nigerians are instead advised to pray for the repose of the soul of the late Chief of Staff”.

He added that a condolence register will be opened at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) from Sunday for those who are able to use the window permitted for movement by the FCT administration.

The news of Kyari’s death was announced by both Mr Shehu and another presidential aide, Mr Femi Adesina, in the early hours of Saturday.

According to them, he died on Friday, April the 17th.

Mr Kyari’s remains were brought in an ambulance to the Defence House in Abuja, where family members, as well as his colleagues, gathered to pay their last respect.

He has been buried at Gudu cemetery after funeral prayers at his residence.
