President Jonathan’s media aide, Abati, in EFCC custody

Admin October 24, 2016

reuben-abatiFormer Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Channels television reported that he was spotted at the EFCC premises at about 5:30pm on Monday.

Dr. Abati, a frontline columnist and editorial writer was Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Guradian before he was appointed by President Jonathan.

Abati’s detention may not be unconnected to the anti-corruption campaign of the President  Muhammadu Buhari-led administration which has intensified with a clampdown on some public officials from the previous administration. The arrest and detention of Dr. Abati completes the investigation of all those who worked closely with former President.

But his arrest and detention came as a shock to the media community as he has not been named in any of the ongoing corruption cases.
