President Tinubu seeks increase in number of appeal, Federal High Court Justices

Senate passes Finance Bill

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested the Senate to amend the Court of Appeal act, by increasing the number of Justices from 70 to 110.

The President also seeks amendment to the Federal High Court act, to enable increasing the number of Justices from 70 to 90.

The President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio read the letters as the Senate reconvenes plenary after resuming from its five weeks recess for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Other letters transmitted to the senate from the President include a request to confirm the appointment of Justice Oyewole Joseph Kayode as a Justice of the Supreme Court, and a bill seeking amendment to 24 health sector bills.

Akpabio in his welcome address pledges commitment of senate to make laws that would impact livelihood of Citizens.

Senate honoured late Senator Godiya Akwashiki who died on December 31, 2025 and represented Nasarawa North with a minute silence and suspension of legislative activities for the day.
