Reps begin probe into gov’t agencies over non-remittance of NSITF contributions

Admin October 8, 2019

The house of representatives has opened an investigation into alleged non-remittance of contributions by the three tiers of government, public corporations and companies from 2010 till date.
It would be recalled that the Ad-Hoc Committee of the House of Representatives (“the Committee”) on the “Investigation of Non-remittance of Contributions into the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF)” issued a Public Notice on Monday, 23 September 2019 inviting 1,124 organizations across the Federal, States and Local Governments, and the private sector to an investigative hearing.

The hearing, which is scheduled to hold from 7 – 11 October 2019, is to enable the Committee to ascertain the level of compliance by the affected organizations with their obligation to make contributions to the NSITF from 2010 till date.

It also stated that the affected organisations were required to submit a soft copy and 20 hard copies of their evidence of registration with, and remittance to NSITF, to the Committee Secretariat in Abuja, not later than 4 October 2019.

Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila who was represented by House Leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, however enjoined government bodies to support the cause to realise the vision behind the formation of the Nigeria Social Investment Trust Fund.

The investigative hearing is billed for five days and all key actors are expected to assist the ad hoc committee to unravel the quantum of money not remitted by those mandated by the law establishing the NSITF.
