Voting  commenced late in most polling units in Saturday’s rerun election for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom, due to late arrival of officials from the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).

Though there was massive turnout of voters, the late arrival of officials and election materials had slowed down the process.

At the polling unit 2 Ward 11, Holy Child Primary School, Itak in Ikono, voters were seen waiting for INEC official to arrive as at 9:45a.m.
The situation was the same at polling unit 14 Ward 11, Nung Udoe Itak in Ikono, as there was heavy turnout of voters and security personnel but without voting materials and INEC officials.
Speaking with newsmen, the presiding officer for unit 2, Miss Mildness David, attributed the late accreditation to lack of vehicles to convey electoral materials to the polling unit.
“There was no vehicle to convey the election materials to this place and that was our challenge,” David said.
The Appeal Court had ordered for a rerun for the Ikono/Ini federal constituency, after the main election was cancelled. (NAN)
