S. Korea plans to withdraw Trade Minister Yoo from WTO DG race

Okonjo Iweala

South Korea plans to withdraw Trade Minister Yoo from the race for new WTO director general, paving the way for Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to be the next DG and the first woman and African in the role.

Yoo Myung-hee

This is according to the Washington Trade Daily.

Recall that Nigeria’s Okonjo-Iweala has the support to become the next Director General of the World Trade Organization, but the United States, who favors the South Korean candidate, is blocking the selection of Ms. Okonjo-Iweala.

The Presidency had assured that Nigeria will continue giving its unflinching support to ensure that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala wins the race to become Director-General World Trade Organisation (WTO).
