The abductors attacked the school about 10.45pm Friday night after they arrived in motorcycles. They shot at the two policemen guarding the school; one died instantly while the other sustained injury and is currently being treated.

Major-General John Enenche, spokesman for the Nigerian Defence disclosed that progress has been made in terms of efforts to rescue the abducted students.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Daura, Katsina State, received more briefing on the abduction. The president was briefed by Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State, who informed the president of the steady progress being recorded toward rescuing the students

“We are making progress and the outlook is positive,’’ the governor told newsmen after meeting with the president.

The governor, who was accompanied by the deputy, Manir Yakubu, confirmed that the kidnappers had made contact and discussions were ongoing on the safe return of the students.

“The president is fully committed to the rescue of the school children; it is only appropriate to visit him and give him details of rescue efforts,” he said.

The boarding school students were kidnapped on Friday night by bandits who have continued to torment parts of the north.
