Troops neutralise terrorist, rescue 3 kidnapped victims in Zamfara
The Nigerian Army says troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralised a terrorist, rescued three kidnapped victims, and destroyed a bandits’ camp during ongoing operations in Zamfara.
This is contained in an operational report made available on Saturday.
According to the report, troops on a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa made contact with terrorists operating in Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA.
It stated that troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, neutralising one of them while others fled.
The report said troops recovered rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest from the scene.
According to the report, the troops maintained pressure on the fleeing terrorists and advanced toward Sabon Garin Daudawa community.
It added that the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled on sighting the advancing troops.
The report said troops subsequently cleared the area and destroyed the camp to deny the criminals a safe haven for future operations.
It further disclosed that troops rescued three kidnapped victims during clearance operations in the area and evacuated them to safety.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations across Zamfara and the wider North-West until terrorist and bandit groups are dismantled and peace is restored to affected communities.
