Trump’s speech on tax justifies Tinubu’s tax reforms – Oyedele

Taiwo Oyedele

Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, President Bola Tinubu’s arrowhead in the ongoing tax reforms has justified Tinubu’s economic revamp through tax reforms from the actions of President Donald Trump sworn in Monday as the 47th President of the US.

Trump, the 45th and 47th President of the United States had said in his inaugural speech that he would tax foreign countries to enrich Americans by establishing an 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 to impose tariffs and taxes on other countries, a statement that drew a loud ovation from the crowd.

Oyedele had tweeted shortly after Trump’s inauguration thus: “Today, the 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump announced plans to establish an 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 to impose tariffs and taxes on other countries.

“This move could disrupt international trade and further complicate the already complex global tax system, highlighting the importance of our ongoing tax reforms.

By revamping our tax system, we can better navigate potential challenges and seize any opportunities this development may present.”

Oyedele on behalf of the Federal Government has been spearheading a cache of tax reforms expected to modernise and ease the Nigerian tax system by removing bottlenecks such as multiple taxation, inequality in sharing proceeds of tax, among others.
