Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has achieved a significant international milestone as his 2019 hit single “Joro” is officially certified Platinum in France.

The certification was made known by Syndicat National de l’Édition Phonographique (SNEP) via a post on their official Instagram page.

The post reads: “Wizkid’s track “Joro” is certified.

“Platinum Single!

“30,000,000 equivalent streams.

“Bravo!”

According to SNEP, the track reached the platinum threshold after surpassing 30 million equivalent streams in the european country.

Released in 2019, “Joro” is a mid-tempo Afrobeat hit by Wizkid, produced by Northboi, which served as a promotional single for his Made in Lagos album, showcasing his signature smooth vocals over pulsating rhythms.

The hit single was a massive commercial success, breaking Nigerian records with 10 million views in its first month and the visual received nominations at The Headies Award 2020, including Song Of The Year.

The track earned Gold Certification in Canada, amassing over 40,000 units in sales and remains one of Africa’s most-watched music videos with over 330 million views.

Adding to its global accolades, “Joro” moved over 500,000 units in the U.S. by November 2024, officially qualifying it for RIAA Gold Certification.

Wizkid’s latest certification earned him his fifth SNEP plaque, including two diamond certifications for “One Dance” and “Bella,” as well as two gold plaques for Boom and his Grammy-nominated hit ‘Essence’, featuring Tems.

The certification marks a significant moment for Nigerian music on the global stage, reflecting the sustained popularity of the Starboy Entertainment in the French market.(NAN)
