Young Shanghai workers earn N382,000 monthly – Report

The average monthly salary of young people in Shanghai exceeded 7,300 yuan (1,062 U.S. dollars or N382,320) in 2018, according to a report released by local human resources authorities.

The report shows that the average monthly salary of people between the ages of 16 and 35 in Shanghai went up 743 yuan from 2018, a year-on-year increase of 11.3 per cent.

There are 4.94 million people in that age group currently employed in Shanghai.

Statistics show that 1.32 million registered young employees in Shanghai come from the other provinces of the Yangtze River Delta, accounting for 41.9 percent of non-native young workers and more than a quarter of Shanghai’s working young population.

Anhui Province is the largest source of non-native young laborers in Shanghai, with 663,000 employees aged between 16 and 35 from the province.

While more than 500,000 young people are from neighboring Jiangsu Province.
