Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Delta state chapter, have given their support to Atiku/Okowa and Sheriff/Onyeme Presidential and Governorship tickets of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively.

Addressing journalists shortly after a meeting of the group with the key stakeholders of the PDP on Friday in Asaba, the Chairman of the NURTW Delta state chapter, Chief Francis Arhiyor, stated that their support is for the Atiku/Okowa ticket in this year’s general elections.

He said that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is a candidate with wealth of experience on the issues of governance in this country, having served as the Vice President of the country for eight years.

According to Chief. Arhiyor, “You will agree with me that some of us who are members of the union are part of the politics of this country.

“So we are here today to officially let the world know that we support the Atiku/Okowa ticket in the forth coming Presidential elections.

He stated that given the track records of the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, the Atiku/Okowa ticket will solve the myriad of problems being faced by Nigerians today.

The NURTW boss in the state said that, “It is good to know that we are endorsing Atiku/Okowa ticket as our candidates.

“This is because I believe that if we give him the opportunity to become the President of this country, some of the challenges we are facing today, he knows how to tackle them.

“He will not come to tell us stories, like what we have been hearing from 2015 till date from this present government.”

Chief Ariyor stated that the issue of inflation, fuel hike, bad roads, insecurity, poor power supply and disunity needs attention and advocated that support for the PDP would guarantee a brighter future for the nation.

The group also endorsed the PDP governorship ticket of Sheriff Oborevwori/Monday Onyeme and all other PDP candidates contesting this year’s general elections.

“We are also in support of the governorship ticket of Sheriff Oborevwori/Monday Onyeme and all other PDP candidates contesting for the different offices in this election.

“Therefore, we are officially endorsing all the PDP candidates, as our candidates in this elections.”

Earlier in the meeting, the Deputy governorship candidate, Chief Monday Onyeme, had thanked the union for their previous support to the PDP and promised that they would now be recognised as partners in the next government.

The meeting had in attendance, members of the Union from across the twenty five Local Government Areas of the state.

Similarly, the Association of Delta Orators and Urhobo Musicians have also endorsed the candidates of the PDP in the coming general elections.

The group gave the endorsement at a meeting with top government functionaries and party stakeholders held on Friday in Asaba.

The group’s endorsement was sequel to a motion moved by Olorogun David Omote Akperhe (Prof. Mukos) and seconded by Chairman Urhobo musicians Dr. Justice Ojijevwe and was ratified by the House.

The group said their endorsement for the Atiku-Okowa and Sheriff-Onyeme as well as other candidates of the PDP was in recognition of the party’s antecedents in the past, adding that the current APC administration at the Federal had no solution to the myriad of challenges bedevilling the country.

PDP stakeholders who were present at the meeting include, the Chief of Staff Govt House, Hon. Festus Ovie Agas, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, State Secretary of the PDP, Engr. Daniel Ossai, Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Dr Kingsley Emu, the Director of Protocol, Mr. Ifeanyi Eboigbe; and other party chieftains.
