Aug. 5, 2025

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan has ordered a 25 year-old woman, Odunayo Odunlade, to be remanded in Agodi correctional centre for allegedly stealing a two-month-old baby.

Odunlade had pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing brought against her.

However, the defendant was unable to fulfill the bail conditions granted her by the court.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Latunji, had admitted Odunlade to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Latunji thereafter, adjourned the case till Oct. 21 for trial.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Insp. Oluseye Akinola, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 24 at Lascap-Oniyanrin area of Ibadan.

Akinola said that Odunlade stole the child from the bedroom where his mother had placed him.

He said that officers at Mokola police station swung into action immediately after receiving details of the defendant’s atrocity.

Akinola said that the police successfully tracked the defendant at a location which he had not disclosed some days after stealing the child.

According to him, the offence contravenes the provisions of section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. ii, Law of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN)
