Kano Court Jails Two 14 Years Each for Stabbing, Death of Man
A Kano State High Court on Monday, sentenced Nafi’u Garba, and Abdulmalik Garba-Yaroro, to 14 years imprisonment each for murder of one Surajo Garba.
Garba and Garba-Yaroro, who live in Tudun Murtala and Zango Line, Dakata Quarters in Kano, were convicted of culpable homicide and abetment.
Delivering judgment, Justice Hadiza Suleiman held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond the reasonable doubt.
“The court considered the age of the defendants at the time they committed the offence and the fact that the incident occurred during a fight,” she said.
Suleiman, however, sentenced the convicts to 14 years imprisonment each without an option of fine.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr. Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, told the court that the Garba and Garba-Yaroro, committed the offence on March 16, 2019, at about 8:15 p.m. at Rimi Line, Zango Dakata Quarters Kano
According to the prosecutor, the victim later died from the injury sustained.
Abba-Sorondinki presented three witnesses to the court to prove his case.
They had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 85 and 221(b) of the Penal Code.
The defence counsel, Mr. M.B. Dan’azumi, urged the court to temper justice with mercy in view of the age of the convicts.(NAN)
