The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) says its newly unveiled digital broadcasting platform will enhance access to information, stimulate investment and accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation.

The Director-General, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, stated this in Abuja at the inauguration of the “Big Picture” initiative and “Free TV’’ digital broadcasting platform.

He described the initiative as a new national communications architecture designed to provide Nigerians with equal access to high-definition television, trusted information, educational content and digital opportunities.

Those, he said, were regardless of location or social status.

According to him, the project goes beyond technological advancement and represents a national vision aimed at expanding opportunities across the broadcasting value chain.

“The Big Picture represents our collective ambition to democratise access to information, unlock opportunities for content creators, and stimulate investment.

“Also, to empower local manufacturers, strengthen media plurality, expand consumer choice and improve spectrum efficiency.

“It is also aimed at positioning Nigeria as Africa’s leading digital broadcasting ecosystem,” he said.

The NBC boss said the inauguration marked a significant milestone in the country’s digital broadcasting journey.

He said that it also reflected the commitment of government and stakeholders to building a more inclusive digital future.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for providing policy direction through the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Ebuebu also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, as well as the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani.

“Collaboration among government institutions, regulators, investors, manufacturers, broadcasters and development partners has been critical to the success of the initiative, ” he said.

The director-general urged stakeholders to actively engage with the initiative and leverage its opportunities to advance the nation’s digital economy.

He said the programme would feature presentations on the Big Picture Initiative, technical demonstrations of the Free TV platform, goodwill messages from partners and the official unveiling of the project.

Ebuebu expressed optimism that the initiative would drive innovation, improve access to information and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global digital broadcasting landscape.

“Today, Nigeria moves beyond ideas into implementation, delivery and the future.

“Every generation is remembered for the future it chooses to build. Today, Nigeria has chosen a digital future and chosen the Big Picture,” he said. (NAN
