Controversy over cause of death of NECO Registrar, Godswill Obioma

June 1, 2021

Controversy has continued to rail the death of the Chief Executive of the National Examination Council (NECO), Professor Godswill Obioma, whose death was announced early Tuesday.

The son of Obioma, Prince Godswill Obioma II, on behalf of the family had written to NECO stating that his father died after a brief illness.

This is contrary to reports that he was killed by unknown gunmen on Monday night when they stormed his residence in Minna, the Niger State capital.

He wrote, “Dear Sir, this is to formally inform you that my father, Prof. Godswill Obioma, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO passed to eternal glory yesterday 31/5/2021 after a brief illness.

His widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Obioma, was said to have told reporters that the assailants strangled her husband to death and left without taking anything.

Professor Obioma, a 67-year-old indigene of Abia State, assumed office as NECO Registrar on May 22, 2020.
