The leaderships of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC)  have agreed to embark on a nationwide indefinite strike from Tuesday, October 3.

This was the outcome of a joint press briefing held by both leadership of the unions in Abuja, on Tuesday

In reaching the agreement, the unions directed their state chapters to mobilize for protests across the country.

The leaders of the two labour unions have had a sharp disagreement  in the past resulting in TUC not joining the NLC in the last warning strike, but they  have now resolved their differences and are prepared for a total showdown with the Federal Government for not acting fast in mitigating the pains on Nigerians inflicted by the removal of fuel subsidy.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong has appealed to the NLC leadership to shelve the planned strike, assuring them that the Federal Government is determined to address the concerns raised.

A statement signed by the spokesman of the ministry’s Olajide Oshundu, urged the workers’ unions to give the government a little more time to address other issues.
