Rwanda increases salaries of public, government- aided schools

Rwanda has announced the increment of the salaries of Primary, Secondary School Teachers by 88% and 40% respectively.

In a statement on Monday by the country’s Ministry of Education, this was part of strategies discussed to improve the welfare of teachers, including access to finance, promoting the quality of education in public and government- aided schools for general education and Technical and vocational education and training, TVET.

According to the statement the following decisions were made:

*To allocate 5 billion FRW to Umwalimu Sacco (a Savings and Credit Cooperative for Rwandan teachers and education professionals) in order to strengthen liquidity conditions and access to finance by teachers

It noted that the salaries for head and deputy head teachers and support staff working in public and government- aided schools have also been revised upwards.

The announcement it stated further comes into effect from the payment of the teacher salaries of August, 2022.
